Papa Tone: Mo Good Sex

Bill Knowland was brought in for second unit photography for this music video production specifically to film the models and create a sensual mood through lighting and composition.

The diversity of Bill’s shooting experience allowed coverage for night and day shots, interiors, exteriors, dolly and boom shots.

The Click: Captain Save a Hoe

For the Click’s first hit, Director Dwaine Terry chose Bill Knowland as Director of Photography because of his creative ability to set the mood for a scene.

In one instance, he rotated a shot 360 degrees on axis to generate feelings of confusion and disorientation. The music video production was shot on 16mm film.

The Click:
Tired of Being Stepped On
Tired of Being Stepped On needed to exhibit a “gangsta attitude” through tough and ominous 16mm images.

As Director of Photography, Bill Knowland backlit an oncoming “posse,” filtering streams of light through their silhouettes in a powerful signature shot that has been widely imitated.

E-40: Practice Looking Hard

As Director of Photography, Bill Knowland developed the concept of having The Coup’s Boots Riley pass by inside a mirror as E-40s alter ego.

This 16mm music video production included cameo appearances by TuPac Shakur, Celly Cel, and others.

Carlos Alberto: Nunca Jamas

Bill Knowland served as Producer, Director and Director of Photography for this Betacam SP music video production.

The Coup: Takin’ These

Director Dwaine Terry once again contracted Bill Knowland as Director of Photography and Production Manager for this 16mm music video production.

An aerial shot used a Bell Jet Ranger rigged with a custom mount to provide stability and fluidity. Another steadi cam shot required continuous lighting over 50 yards of interior space.

Indiana Eye and the Lost Eye
of Chelcho

Our hero is “Indiana Eye” in this
Raiders of the Lost Ark parody.

Bill Knowland was Director of Photography for this Betacam SP live action short where blue screen effects placed our hero into a virtual set. A fun challenge was composing matching camera angles for a variety of scenes based on the original film.
