When was the last time you checked your mobile device? If you are like most people, it probably was only a few minutes ago. Mobile devices are becoming an integral part of consumer's lives. According to Pew Research, 58% of all adults in the United States own a smartphone. And that number will be rising every year. Mobile devices are changing the way business is conducted and the way websites operate. As consumers increasingly use their smartphones and tablets to access social media, check emails and shop online, businesses need to make sure their websites are mobile-friendly. And the way to do that, is to embrace responsive website design.

What Is Responsive Design?

You may have heard of responsive website design before. Essentially what it does is allow your website to automatically detect what size of the screen is, displaying it and adjusting accordingly to give the viewer the best possible experience.

With responsive design, all of your content, photos and graphics will display properly on any screen. This way you will not have to create separate websites for each device. But beyond that there are many reasons why you should implement responsive design.

Mobile Friendly Website Design

Take a walk outside your office, and you will no doubt see most of the people that you encounter will be looking at their smartphones. They will not be looking up. If your business is spending money on billboard ads, you are wasting your money.

  • Over 20% of all Google searches are now taking place in mobile devices.
  • 36 percent of all emails are opened on a mobile device, either smartphone or tablet.
  • Mobile Internet usage will outpace desktop usage this year.

These three bits of information should convince you that mobile is the future of business. If you want to have a competitive website, it must be viewable on every mobile device. That is why your need responsive design.

Google Loves It

Whatever Google wants, Google gets. To tap into Google’s approximately 75% share of all Internet search volume, businesses have to adjust to the wants and needs of the biggest search engine in the world.

In 2012, Google said it prefers responsive design as the recommended mobile configuration. And there are reasons for it. Responsive design makes it easier for all those Google bots to crawl your site and index and store all that information.

Without this type of responsive mobile design, your site will not load properly and visitors will go elsewhere. If this happens, bounce rates will increase, and that will cause problems for Google’s algorithm. By keeping Google happy, you will no doubt be helping your business as well.

Increased Conversion Rates

Purchases on mobile devices are increasing year over year. If you want a piece of those sales, your website needs to perform properly on those devices. Most consumers will leave a website if it takes too long to load or if they cannot navigate easily.

This is especially important for Inbound marketers. If you spend precious time creating and perfecting valuable content, it needs to display properly or visitors will leave your site before they read your content, and it will be as if you never created it in the first place.

These are just a few of the reasons why your business should be using a responsive website design studio or method to create your websites. It is easy to manage and will give your visitors an optimal experience. It will also keep you a few steps ahead of your competition - who may not have a responsive website.
